All calculations are based on the Holliday-Segar formula and align with "Paediatric Protocols for Malaysian Hospitals, 5th Edition".
Clinical Scope Limitation: Strictly indicated for dehydration secondary to Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE). It is NOT intended for Dengue, Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), burns, surgical abdomen, or conditions requiring specialized fluid resuscitation protocols.

Do not use for adult patients or infants under 1 month - this tool is specifically designed for pediatric cases above 1 month of age.
Do not use for Dengue, Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), burns, or other non-AGE etiologies.
Do not disrupt, damage, or interfere with the application's functionality.
Do not reproduce PedFluid content for commercial purposes without permission.

Clinical Assessment: Classify dehydration based on the presence of clinical signs. Check severe criteria first (two or more severe signs), then moderate dehydration (two or more abnormal domains). A single severe finding still requires urgent review.

Fluid Deficit Calculation

Formula:

Weight (kg) × % dehydration × 10

Duration: Correction over 12–24 hours (12 hours initially)
Hypernatraemia needs an individualized, slower regimen; seek specialist advice

Fluid Type: 0.9% NS or Hartmann's solution

Example (25 kg, 5%):
25 × 5 × 10 = 1250 mL
→ 104.2 mL/hr over 12 hours

Maintenance (Holliday–Segar)

Weight-Based Formula:

First 10 kg 100 mL/kg/day

Next 10 kg 50 mL/kg/day

>20 kg 20 mL/kg/day

Hourly Rate: Divide total by 24
Routine daily ceiling: female 2,000 mL; male 2,500 mL (protocol p. 64). Maintenance only; deficit is separate.
Patients requiring adjusted dosing weight need an individualized plan outside this calculator.

Fluid Type: 0.9% NS D5%

Example (25 kg):
(1000 + 500 + 100 = 1600 mL/day)
→ 66.7 mL/hr over 24 hours

AGE shock bolus: 10 mL/kg actual body weight, maximum 500 mL per bolus. Reassess circulation and fluid overload before any repeat.

Final Fluid Regime

Deficit Correction:
104.2 mL/hr (0.9% NS or Hartmann's) over 12h

Maintenance:
66.7 mL/hr (0.9% NS D5%) over 24h

Judicious fluid regime required in:

Children < 6 months
Cardiac / renal disease
Severe malnutrition or severe anaemia
Severe hypernatraemia — may need correction over 48–72h
Symptomatic hyponatraemia — requires correction with hypertonic saline 3%

Advise to consult FMS / paediatrician / emergency physician.
